Many of our staff members have been led to caregiving via interesting and diverse paths. Today, we’re highlighting staff member Karen A, who began her relationship with Care on Call as a client.
After a brain hemorrhage, Karen needed assistance with housework and other tasks. She was supported by members of our team, stating of her experience: “When I finally got out of hospital and rehab, Care on Call was there for me”. She had multiple different caregivers throughout a five year period, who she describes as ‘friendly’ and ‘caring’.
When she was in a position to return to full-time work, Karen decided to join Care on Call, feeling as if she could repay the efforts of the caregivers that helped with her brain hemorrhage. In Karen’s words: “I could feel like I was giving a little bit back”.
Karen continues to work at Care on Call, where she enjoys meeting different people and hearing stories about their lives. We’d like to thank Karen for sharing her journey! We love to hear from our staff about how they came into caregiving and aged care, and if you have a story, we'd love to hear from you, too! Ngā mihi nui.
